NOTICE - Cinder Variations
Please note, volcanic cinder is a material mined straight from the earth. Therefore, variations in color are to be expected. Red cinder may appear a dark rust color one month, and a light, almost orange the next, and anything in between. The 3/4 Red and the cinder mixes will contain more or less black cinder at any given point.
Additionally, the sizes given are estimates. You may have pieces larger than 3/4" to 2" or 2" to 4" in the mix. If you are scheduling a delivery, it is best that you see the material in person prior to your delivery date so that you know what you are ordering.
3/8" Minus Red Cinder
General uses include mixing into your own soil blend, or to cover a leach field. It includes 3/8” cinder rock and pieces as small as fine cinder soil.

3/4" Red Cinder
Red cinder is generally used as decorative ground cover for landscaping. The color, or shade, of the red cinder changes constantly due to the naturally occurring layers of cinder at the quarry. They may vary in color from an orange copper to a deep maroon. This picture shows the color of cinder we currently have available for purchase. Please note, the 3/4 Red Cinder does contain some 3/4 Black Cinder at this time.

Cinder
Black Cinder (aka Dark Cinder) is generally used as decorative ground cover for landscaping. It is a rare material that the Big Island is slowly being depleted of; therefore, we have only a limited supply. Update: 1" Minus Black Cinder also now available in bulk!

Medium Cinder Mix
The medium cinder mix is generally used as decorative ground cover for landscaping, or fill material. The cinder pieces range in size from 3/4 inch to 2 inches. It includes a mix of red, brown, and dark cinders.

Cinder Boulders
By popular request, Soil Plus now sells medium to large cinder boulders by the pallet. Sizes and assortments vary so you would need to visit our yard to choose the right boulders for your project. We are unable to deliver boulders, but we can load your chosen rocks onto a pallet which we would load onto your vehicle.
