1. Determine Soil Quantities / Volume
Estimating soil is not rocket science.
For the ease of calculating, square off your areas, make areas square or rectangle.
Do not try to calculate wedge, curve, circle or L shapes.
2. To Calculate
Length (feet) x Width (feet) x Depth (use figures below) / 27 = Cubic Yards
(Depth)
36 inches (3)
24 inches (2)
12 inches (1)
6 inches (.5)
4 inches (.333)
3 inches (.25)
2 inches (.16)
For wedge shape areas divide the volume by 2
Remember to always round up. And add 20 to 30% for compaction loss.
3. Delivery
a. Locate cess pit, septic tank and leach field.
b. Determine access for the truck, driveway or other (If your two-wheel drive pickup
cannot go there, we cannot either.)
c. Locate areas to dump material. Area cannot have side slope and truck has trouble dumping with the front of the truck lower then the rear.
d. Look for low wires, tree limbs, house eaves or over hang, etc...
4. Ordering
With the above information we can determine quantity pricing and Truck configurations for the delivery.
